Bb.


Bumble and bumble je jedan od njujorskih koncepata koji ovaj grad cini onim sto jeste, to je istorija grada, njegova ikonografija, aktuelnost, pokretac, snaga i reinventivnost (ovu rec BAS ne volim ali ne mogu da smislim neku adekvatniju...). Biznis, zanat, kvalitet, rad, ideja, chic. U velikom gradu ne prolazi bullshit.

U poslednjih par godina, svaki put kada mi zatreba hair intervencija bilo koje vrste, u glavi mi se pojavi ova slika:

... veliki brisani prostor sa malom stanicom pored svakog mesta, bez ogledala, sa pogledom kroz veeeliki prozor. Zapravo, slika iz Downtown Bumble house-a podseca na nesto sto bi lako moglo da se napravi u jednom od boksova dole u Beton hali. Pogled na reku, jesenje jutro, oko pola 10, lotos caj, muzika, recimo Gin Cooler, i onda na posao. Sa jednom od ovih frizura:

Hvalospeve o ovom chic rasadniku mozete cuti na sve strane, a mislim da ce biti sasvim dovoljno da o Bb. na NYMag-u.

Ono sto zasluzuje narocito isticanje je njihov vizuelni identitet koji je rastao sa njima. Poceli su sa cesljicima, kako to vec ide sa direktnim asocijacijama i retro dizajnom, pa su se pretvorili u Miami Vice, da bi ih Alexander Brebner krajem osamdesetih transformisao u ovo sto su do danas - kuca sa mnogo rucno ispisanih logoa kome se u novije vreme pridruzio Gotham da fino uredi, ohladi i uozbilji celu stvar. Citav vizuelni kod je divan, pakovanja vrve od rucno ispisanih reci, a utegnuta su ilustracijom i sa nesto fashion tipografije tu i tamo, u nekim oglasima.

Bumble and bumble is one of New York's concepts that make this city what it is, it is the city's history, its iconography, presence, strength and power to reinvent (i so dislike that word, but cannot think of another that is as suitable...) Business, craft, quality, hard work, idea, chic. In the big city bullshit is no go.

In the last couple of years, every time I need a hair intervention of any kind, this is the picture that crosses my mind: (see image) ... that huge clear space a few work stations with no mirror in front, a view through this huge window. Actually, the view inside Downtown Bumble house seems like something that can feel very natural here in Downtown Belgrade, in Beton hala, down by the river. Gazing at the water on a fresh fall morning, about 9.30, a cup of lotus tea, background music, Gin Cooler for example, and then to work. Happilly having one of these styles: see image

The praises for this chic hotbed can be heard everywhere, and I think that reading Bb.'s profile on NYMag is enough for you to get it.

Bb.'s visuals are especially worth noting. They changed and grew along with the salon. It began in that literal retro manner with the combs incorporated in the logo, grew over that Miami Vice style into something Alexander Brebner made to last from the end of 80's to this date, being updated only with a bit of Gotham to tighten things up and not make it colder or more distant. Their entire look is just lovely, packs packed with handlettered logos and descriptions, and twisted with a hint of illustration and some fashion typography in some ads.

  1. i randomly picked up a copy of {cosmogirl} a few years ago and was immediately drawn to the packaging of Bb hair powder. except the pic in this feature, showed three white bottles of red,brown, and blonde hair powder(?) each with their respective once over swath of spray paint.
    i really admire such simplicity with impact. happy little accident finding this product in cosmogirl of all things!
    i lurve the design of Surf Spray too. looking at it conjures up images of burning incense at the beach. i rarely use styling products (occasionally psst)but i bought this just for the entrancing bottle. inspiring post as always.
