It's iPad

Stiv Dzobs na sceni u farmerkama i crnoj rolci - ergo - nesto novo super fly for a Mac guy.

Bas kada razmisljam o uskorobuducem elektronicko-radnom okruzenju pojavi se ovaj slimster i donekle me opredeli - MacBookPro 17'' it is.

p.s. Inside story - kako Steve Jobs brifuje dizajnere kad treba da naprave Buy dugme: Make it lickable. Ne, ne klikabl, likabl.

.............................................................................................
Steve Jobs on the stage wearing jeans and black turtleneck - ergo - something new super fly for a Mac guy.

No space and time for the entire keynote here, just promo video. So here's Jony instead of Steve. I mean, it's your classic hype, but then again, where would our world be without that hype. Some of those carefully and frustratingly orchestrated updates and upgrades fits your current needs, some don't. iPad fits me more than fine. Just when I'm thinking of my next workstation this slimster pops up, and makes me decide in a snap - MacBookPro 17" it is. Pro to stay, Pad to go. I hope the next thing they're going to give us will be simplified version of the phone to match this new set of mine.
MacBookPro17", iPad and that basic iPhone would then make my perfect Apple Trifle.

p.s. Inside story - Steve Jobs' brief to designers making BUY button: Make it lickable. No, not clickable, lickable.

Luella Love

Luella Bartley je britanska modna dizajnerka, a ovo deo njene Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear kolekcije.

Pulen londonskog Central St. Martins koledza, onomad cimerka kant-autorke Mathangi Arulpragasam, u narodu poznatije kao M.I.A. Wiki kaze Her designs often draw influence from the British music scene and have been acclaimed for her quirky, punk inspired, often distinctly English style.

NYMag u profilu stil ove modne kuce opisuje sa British, Casual, Eccentric/Whimsical, Feminine, a deo opisa neke od kolekcija koju sam pronasla na Luella zvanicnom sajtu mogao bi generalno opisati njen stil: On first glance everything is rather proper, with bow fronted blouses, pleated skirts and mini, structured queen mum bags but there's a strange, wonky undertone. Things aren't quite present and correct.

Nekada malo previse rock'n'roll za moj ukus, ali lepo ona to kanalise vodi i artikulise u neku komercijalnu celinu luuudo duhovitih, zenstveno flattering i latentno opakih stvari. Evo kako to radi prolecna RTW kolekcija. Mini Maus, secerna vuna, Bacardi Breezer, marcipan i Blondie.

Luella Bartley iz British fashion designer, and this is a part of her Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear collection.

Studied at Central St. Martins, once a roomate with singer/songwriter Mathangi Arulpragasam, widely known as M.I.A. Wiki says Her designs often draw influence from the British music scene and have been acclaimed for her quirky, punk inspired, often distinctly English style. In Britain she reached Sir Paula Smitha and Vivienne Westwood level of adoration. So highly regarded that she's just been appointed MBE!

NYMag descripts her style as British, Casual, Eccentric/Whimsical, Feminine, and a part of her current collection's description could be general one to the entire Luella brand spirit: On first glance everything is rather proper, with bow fronted blouses, pleated skirts and mini, structured queen mum bags but there's a strange, wonky undertone. Things aren't quite present and correct.

At times a bit to rock'n'roll for me, she's one super fly pilot, articulating it all into a commercial line of crazy funny, silly, womanly flattering pieces that are a dash fierce in disguise. Here's how it all works within the upcoming spring RTW collection. Minnie Mouse, cotton candy, Bacardi Breezer, marzipan and Blondie.

Magical Mr. Shu

Iako u kampanji deluju super dramaticno i nenosivo, u stvarnom zivotu i na nejapanskim ocima ipak izgledaju pre-div-no.

Recimo ovo slatko rumenilo.

...................................................................................................
INCREDIBLE Shu Uemura transformed make up into one serious fashion accessory in level of a purse, shoes, hat or a scarf during his fruitful long career.

Amongst his still super selling basic face care products, the house of Shu is known for its fake eye lashes and the most whimsy of all is the collection named Tokyo Lash Bar. The intro image shows the two of the four styles presented in Tokyo Lash Bar 2009 collection, and these two models are called fleur-ever i goldglam leaf.

There's also still uber beautiful Tokyo Lash Bar 2008 collection created along with Viktor&Rolf fashion duo.

Even though these look over dramatic and unusable in real life, they actually work beautifully, and even non Japanese eyes can pull off wearing them. Here are three proper minxes perfect fit for the dreamy Shu lashes.

Mr Shu Uemura was well known Japanese makeup artist and the founder of the eponymous cosmetics company that he creatively directed until his death, in 2007, even after he sold his controlling interest to French cosmetics maker L'Oréal in 2004.

A few major bits from his professional biography say that he was the first boy to enroll Tokyo Beauty Academy, he somehow hooked up with Hollywood and became big when transforming Shirly MacLaine into Japanese woman for My Geisha movie shooting. Then, in 1960, he released his first product - oil face cleanser, and it became hit, being still No.1 best selling product by Shu Uemura company. The universal cleansing oil got its different skin type variations recently.

Besides this product, one of the most famous is ones is eyelash curler, and since it is being adored amongst the Hollywood elite itself it got this 24k gold extension. Apart from that one, I'd love to have this UV Under Base, simply perfect in design... or his newer cousin - Mousse Shimmer. Plus, something from the recent holiday season collection created with my dear Tsumori Chisato, I'd have this sweetest blush.

Magnificent Snowflakes

A i prelepo izgleda, nekako ovako:

On hvalata prirodne ali i dizajnira pahulje, stvara vestacke u kalifornijskoj laboratoriji.

all images by Mr. Libbrecht, except Snow Queen ones

......................................................................................
This weekend, the snow sparkled particularly shiny, like a diamond. It's all in the temperature, being at such level that it made the crystals create forms of true snowflakes, the ones we imagine at the very thought of them.

Here’s the snowflake morphology diagram as given in one of the books by the gentleman who’s the main character of this story, and if you’d need some more popular science, voila, a text on snowflakes design. see image

I haven’t seen those proper crystal shapes on the windows in a long time, as gorgeous as if from some ooooold Russian cartoons which last and last. Just as the Red flower. Or that creepily cold and miraculously attractive movie Snow Queen made in 2000 and based on the Hans Christian Andersen’s Snedronningen story. Queen Margrethe II of Denmark herself participated in its creation. Kai and Gerda… I can’t even remember, like, one of the children gets frozen, and it gets creepy when you’re a little kid. But worry not, the love melts it all and all ends fine in the end. And it also looks beautiful, something like this: see images

But, let me go back to the little ice crystals. While admiring them several years ago, I did some googling and I just thought of those incredible photos now. Although Mr. Bentley made the first serious collection of the snowflakes photographs, it comes out that the greatest contribution in the field of ice crystals research, especially in the field of snowflake structure, was given by Kenneth G. Libbrecht, a professor of physics at California Institute of Technology (Caltech).

On his website (overly funny technically wise and considering the romantically touching nature of the field he works in) one can find several galleries of photographs, captured by the photomicroscope, specially constructed for snowflakes photographing. He captures the natural ones, but also designs snowflakes, creates artificial ones in a Californian laboratory. Four of his photographs were published in 2006 by USPS in the form of stamps and printed in 3 billions of copies. Here are just some of them, plus descriptions at NewScientist website: see images

The books by Ken Libbrecht:
* the best looking cover - The Snowflake
* and then one with a completely different title - Snowflakes
* one with the artistic ecstasy - The Art of the Snowflake: A Photographic Album
* one “mini must” - The Little Book of Snowflakes
* and my favorite title, the book about the snowflakes and for the terrain explorations purpose - Ken Libbrecht's Field Guide to Snowflakes

Rainbow Gun

U A Foundation Gallery at Rochelle School u Londonu, u toku je cetvrta godisnja izlozba iz serije If You Could, ovoga puta sa temom Collaborate.

Nesto podsmeha i malo prepustanja.

.....................................................................................................
The porcelain has the miraculous aura of bourgeois-collecting and camp combination, as Marija Skoko would say. I’m paraphrasing.

Now, I love this at some core, essential, crucially familiar level and it is very hard for me to recommend her exhibition with at least some objective insight. If I try really hard, I will tell you that what’s contributing largely to the latest update of her works’ atmosphere is that fact she spent some time in New York and got involved with porcelain there. Although we will mostly enjoy the objects made out of colored and sometimes glazed terracotta at this exhibition, porcelain is the basic idea and the starting point.

Besides the New York one, also some strange LA-like tone of bizarreness is felt, a direct collision of unspeakable richness and even more inexpressible poorness, or this is the America as a whole and its filtrating through one subtle local view.

This time, while put together as a unit for the current exhibition in Dom Omladine[1], the
touch of feminine is dominant. Yearning and the ambivalent relationship with this feeling. Some mocking and some giving into. The exhibition is underlined by the famous Once upon a dream piece from Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. This will help you to understand the kind of humor, edge, cynicism but also the softness, sentiment and dedication which in this specific mix make the A Wish is to Wish exhibition.

Marija grasped her recognizable expression within the materials she works with, the expression drastically different than all the others coming out of the local schools, both sculptors and ceramicists. This is much bigger than the technique, a beautiful painting in three dimensions. You will not believe when you look at the items exhibited very closely. You will be enchanted by the powdered face and miraculously rosy cheeks of the large female figure, looking like a childhood doll. And then her classically modeled hair and the drapery she is tranquilly and disturbingly laying on in the front of you. Smaller than the actual size, just enough to revolt something inside your head.

If you are missing subtleness in Belgrade, hit Dom Omladine, the exhibition is opened until February 1st only.

Manners of the Month

Autobusi smrdljivi i bucni, a isti takvi i ljudi.

Oni debeli veliki stripovi sto izlaze jednom nedeljno i kostaju svega dva tri dolara. Neocekivano laki i bledunjavo odstampani.

........................................................................................................
OK, I rarely use the public transportation. I might have used it more often if those experiences hadn’t been so painful. The buses are smelly and loud, just as the people. I am not asking for the New York or Tokyo metro, although, they did spoil me a bit.

While lacking some generally accepted code of behavior which would be as simple as not bothering the others, I remembered that TokyoMetro has the campaign running, with the goal to make the travel using public transportation as comfortable for everyone as possible. The campaign does so by pointing out the examples of socially unacceptable behavior and all in the name of its disappearance of course. In short, some kind of Tokyo Public Transportation Etiquette. All the posters made so far are available at TokyoMetro website, and here are some of my favorites. Obviously, it’s been noted that the main issues are teenage-hooligans, self-jeopardizing, taking too much space, noise, babbling, state of absolute drunkenness and – putting the make up on.

One of the things not present on any of these posters is photographing. Namely, it is not at all OK to photograph the people in the metro in Tokyo. Obviously, there must have been some serious abuses if it led to the unavailability of the option to turn off the sound on Japanese mobile phones played when taking a photo. But that’s why we have the silly tourists to capture the moments like this one for us: see images

And due to this little lady, I remembered some more metro-details. It is all very funny, Irena is talking to us in Serbian, explaining something about the person next to us, no one understanding a single word we say. Anyways, over there, in metro you either sleep or read. If you read, you read a little book tucked within an opaque rubber cover, because not everybody needs to know what are you reading. Or – graphic novels. Those thick large comic books published weekly and costing only $2 - $3. Unexpectedly light and printed palely. It is only being multiplied and finished with, no reason to hit the black. And those cartoons… mother of god, how much do they work to get that many out, those are hundreds of pages… Read the story on this craaaazy industry at Wired.

Restaurant Review: PIRE SLOW FOOD

ABOUT:
Uvek zuje i snimaju situaciju, sve tiho i elegantno funkcionise.

FOOD: Hrana divna. Simple clean good food. Dok smo ziveli u kraju, svako malo smo vidjali utovar novih malih kolicina svezih namirnica, posebno probranih i maksimalno dobro, pametno i znalacki iskoriscenih. Kada trazite potaz od karfiola to cete upravo i dobiti. Simple as that. Add a dash of pepper ako volite.

Pre klope, preporucujem pravi caj od nane. Sasvim blago obojena premirisna topla voda greje dusu, ukorenjuje. A onda - narudzbina.

Kako god. They're magnificent. I uz njih, kafa s mlekom servirana u pomenutoj koralnoj solji. A uz kafu, na tacnici - gomilica minijaturnih zvezdica kolacica. Pa mislim... stvaaarno.

OVERALL:
Samo lagano, take your time. Sta god da narucite, uziiiivacete.

................................................................................................................
ABOUT:
The story about the Pire Slow Food starts and ends with Crêpe Suzette, or, as stated on the receipt - Creppes Susette. I used one nice occasion to split one portion of these magical butterish zesty French crêpes. But, let’s start from the beginning.

SERVICE:
People there are always nice, simple, smiling, at your service. They are always in a rush and they scan the situation, everything functions quietly and elegantly. The menu is changed from time to time, and the staff is always in the know, trained, interested in helping you, explain and wait for you to decide. And god knows that I need the last so very much.

FOOD:
Food – wonderful. Simple clean good food. While we lived in the neighborhood, every once in a while we would see the shipping of the new small amounts of fresh foodstuffs, carefully selected, shipped in, and ultimately well, smart and knowledgably used. When you ask for cauliflower pottage, that is exactly what you will get. Simple as that. Add a dash of pepper if you like.

Before the food, I recommend the real mint tea. Just mildly colored water of super-scent warms up the soul, sets the roots. And then – the order. I choose something different every time, in general I do not like the “standard order” thing. If you are of my capacities, one salad and one mashed potatoes portion will be an excellent base for the upcoming desert. Somewhat lighter combination, the spinach, avocado and almond leaves salad plus mashed potatoes with celery or with basil – a la Lokica (yes, yes, Stefanovic). Caesar salad is their classic, specific for the typical chicken being replaced with wonderful little squares of salmon. With Caesar salad, the mashed potatoes with saffron or maybe with truffles. Local, Serbian, imagine that. I’m sure you didn’t even know you can find them here. I was lucky enough to witness one of the truffles trades in Pire restaurant. Mmmmm…

DESIGN:
Well, considering the fact that this is Dragana Ognjenovic’s restaurant, did you expect anything less than magnificent? Clean white, as if Ula, the Swedish secretary of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom’s The Producers, made a circle around. Even a bit upscale repelling, meaning that I for example, did not dare to come close for a long time, because I thought this place is out of my price range. But no, here is one receipt disclosed. You’ll also find the address and the phone number on it.

Square-shaped cutlery, seasonal interior decoration, white Tord Boontje chandeliers (here you can buy them in KUBO in Visnjiceva Street), D.O. home dishes (which you can buy in the nearby store in Kneza Sime Markovica Street), to me particularly enchanting cups with the coral from previous collection… And then the wooden, colored in white floors and cupboards, plus – exposed brick wall, white shelf with many fake white books and a little pile of cool magazines to flip through, especially if you dropped by on your own for a quick bite.

And in the end - Crêpe Suzette or Creppes Susette. Whatever. They're magnificent. And with them, a coffee with milk served in the above mentioned cup. And with the coffee, on the little plate – a little pile of miniature star-cookies. I mean reeeally…

OVERALL:
Come at some off time (with the minimal number of regular celebrity guests) and deal thoroughly with the menu. The names and the prices are centrally aligned, and additionally spaced, so it is all a bit hard to grasp. Just slowly, take your time. No matter what you order, you’ll enjooooy.
