ili: BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE
Veliki mocni uvodni deo prica o gradu. Facts&figures.
Ozbiljna produkcija, aktivan doprinos umetnickoj sceni.
Slike studenata, cinjenice o studiranju, praksi, ocekivanjima i rezultatima.

or: BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE
(scholarship excluded)
A FEW WEEKS AGO I ordered this School of Visual Arts publication hoping to find out something new in order to improve my teaching skills and upgrade programs at Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade where I'm assistant to professor at Type Design. I actually forgot I ordered catalogue at all and at the beginning I expected some kind of a small brochure with all the courses with a short description of each. But! I got one incredible big light catalogue. There's "SVA" silk screen printed in white on this blue textile tag you can pull to take the catalogue of the shelf. Genius!
The cover is soft wrapped in the folded poster, some abstract graphics with scattered photos printed on one side, and one big block of black with white mirrored text and some kind of geometrically shaped white fields in it. When you hold it against the light these two sides form one image - mirrored text now describes what is on the photo.
One mighty introduction with the NYC facts&figures. I'm not exactly a fan of statistics, but these are carefully selected to give you an impression of the city, and it is designed in this super loud manner. A lot of interesting stuff to learn. Then, student's works presented. One serious production, an active contribution to the art scene. Students pics, facts on courses, internships, expectations and results. Complete data on the school, tuition, everything a future student needs to know. If visual arts are what you're interested in, this is the place you'd want to study it.
And a bunch of other fab stuff in here, a few sticker sheets here and there you can use to design your own catalogue cover. Oh, joy!
Perfectly targeted publication, seemingly light and carefree, packed with content, makes you die to be a part of all that. Somewhere far behind that beehive you can perceive a firm structure holding all that together. And it's smartly depicted here, what needs to be at the surface is there and what needs to be barely visible is exactly there. At least until you need to pay your scholarship. I'm sure a great majority of SVA students would say that it was worth every penny.
