MASTER: Philippe Halsman

NEKAKO NABASAM na neverovatne naslovne strane Life magazina.

U carapicama.

Genijalna fotka.

I BUMPED into these incredible vintage Life magazine covers. Those dating back in thirties, and stretching to mid 60's. They seem proper, fairly regular, but these are just opposite, crazy twisted, quirky in concept. Huge photo with a single comment describing a fairly bizarre photo.

I found this one with the jumping Marylin Monroe super interesting. The capture saying: MARILYN, PART OF JUMPING PICTURE GALLERY. Turns out, the author of the photo is Philippe Halsman, and this one a very important series in his opus. The plot is a simple one: he shoots the celebrity, asking him/her to jump. They agree, he's one of the very best of the portrait photographers, has the name. When they jump he captures their true selves, their essence. Apparently, in this unusual situation people are focused on the jumping act itself so their standard mask are down.

Here's Halsman himself captured jumping with Marylin, the Marylin alone, then Nixon, Duke&Dutchess of Windsor. In their socks. Audrey jumped, too, and so did those two crazy ones, Dean Martin i Jerry Lewis. They've kept their masks on.

And oh yes, speaking of Audrey, Halsman is the one that created those two beautiful portraits of hers - the one with the pidgeons and that Greek one, when she dived into a olive tree. Love. Then, as I just found, those well know portraits of Einstein and Hitchcock are also Halsman's, as well as that incredible photo of Marylin, when she lift the weights from the bench. Genius one.
