H&FJ's Sentinel



NE MOGU VJEROVATI! Hoefler & Frere-Jones su izbacili svoju najnoviju font familiju - SENTINEL. Kako oni kazu, za sve koji su patili sto Clarendon nema vise tezina i, jos vaznije, italike. Do I see a fresh entry for my Fav Font Top 10!!?

Familija od 12 stilova (light, book, medium, semibold, bold i black, pa sve to i italic) pojavila se u pravom trenutku, bas kada na sve strane trubim o revivalu Clarendona sirom sveta. Sve je zapravo pocelo pre godinu dana, kada sam u studiju, tragajuci za font kombinacijom za manifestaciju Be in Belgrade odlucila da Clarendon bude primarni font. Sada, godinu dana posle, Clarendon je back u velikom stilu. Shiseido Collagen kampanja u Japanu i grafika za film Frost/Nixon samo su dva primera. (predivni Tretorn logo, pa redizajn logoa Architectural Review magazina, naslovna strana knjige Design Disasters Stevena Hellera, Dzejmijeva knjiga Jamie at Home, this water...)

A sada je stigao Sentinel koji me je obradovao isto kao sto me je obradovalo pojavljivanje Akkurata, apdejtovane Helvetike. Naravno da pojava novih verzija originale ne izbacuje iz upotrebe, samo je dobro imati izbor i ozbiljnu font familiju isprojektovanu na ozbiljnim temeljima kvaliteta potvrdjenog protokom vremena na raspolaganju.

I CANNOT BELIEVE IT! Hoefler & Frere-Jones released their latest font family - SENTINEL. For those who craved for more weights and italics in Clarendon family, as they say. Do I see a fresh entry for my Fav Font Top 10!!?

Sentinel is consisted of 12 styles (light, book, medium, semibold, bold and black, and italics for all of them) and it appeared at the right moment, just when I noted the current revival of Clarendon worldwide. It all started for me a year ago, when searching for the font combo for this project called
Be in Belgrade we've been working on, I decided to use Clarendon as the primary font. Now, one year after, Clarendon is back in style. Shiseido Collagen campaign in Japan i titles for Frost/Nixon are just two of my fav examples.

And now, Sentinel came and delighted me in the way Akkurat appearing as the updated Helvetica was refreshing. It is understood that the release of the new versions doesn't exclude the originals, it's just great having the option to choose from the variety of subtle hues and add this
font family finely and smartly chiseled to follow its famous predecessor in style to my _FONTS_ folder.

Senna's JPS

NAJBOLJE STO JE moglo da mi se desi tokom haosa u Noci muzeja je da pobegnem preko reke sa ciljem da kupim Wacom i u TC Usce naletim na bolide. Kad kazem bolide mislim na vozila Formule 1.

Prvi na koji smo naleteli je Senin bolid, crni John Player Special. Vise nego dovoljno. Muz mi kaze da je Sena u Formuli bio ono sto je Nadal sada u tenisu - ozbiljno lozenje koje ide daleko iznad para i trofeja. Zato je prvi.

THE BEST THING that could happen to me during that crazy Night of the Museums is to escape to the other river bank, go to that new mall to buy me a Wacom tablet and run into whole bunch of Formula 1 cars.

The first one we ran into was Ayrton Senna's one, black John Player Special. More than enough. My husband tells me that for Formula 1 Senna was what Nadal is for tennis today - the guy with a serious drive that moves him from the guts, far beyond money and the trophy itself. That's why he's No.1.

Summer Comfort



EVO STA MOZETE sa (neverovatnih!) 85 evra. Dva modela u po dve boje iz Bershke i dve Oysho divote. Sve fino, udobno, prirodno i zastitnicki nastrojeno. Za prodavnicu, posao, vezbanje, izlazak... potpuno neverovatan opseg koju pokriva ovih par komada.

Plus, set snalica kao izgledaju kao one koje mi je mama kupovala kad sam bila mala. Neobicno istinski retro, samo od kvalitetnijih materijala. Prosto, naivno, diskretno, comforting, osvezavajuce.



I povrh svega, ambigram logo. To sam tek danas shvatila! Isti je kad se gleda ovako i kad se rotira za 180 stepeni.

Bershka - super thin long sleeves to keep me from the brutal May sun rays. In lavender and dark purple. Sleeveles tops with shoulderblades free, like those tough ones for workers, but with a whole new twist - cotton and silk combo. One in light beige and the other one in an accent color - coral.

Oysho petroleum blue MC Hamer pants and a also something blue on top of that. At one moment I caught myself carrying 5 different hues of blues to the changing rooms! Indigo, petroleum, ultramarine. It seems Sahasrara has something to say * ^ _ ^ *.

Plus, a set of hairclips that look like those my mom used to buy me when I was a kid. Strangely true in that retro style only made of higher quality materials. Simple, naive, discreet, comforting, refreshing.

And, on top of all that,
ambigram logo. I just got that today! Reads the same when you look at it this way or rotate it 180 degrees.

Hermès Neckties

ANOTHER BRILLIANT Designboom competition: les cravates par Hermès.

The task: you are asked to develop a new pattern that could be either a re-interpretation of the Hermes classic patterns (equestrian -, sport -, marine theme, whimsical animal motifs, geometric variations including stripes, plant and flower designs and the H delicately imprinted across the surface of the tie) or something completely different, that could be used for the silk-screen printing - or weaving technique.

If you're not familiar with their tone of voice, I'll recommend their web site once again, since that is one bottomless inspiration well for me ever since I first found it. Here's a snapshot from this particular place from the World of Hermès filled with fathers and sons wearing Gatsby neckties in those cool black and white photo booths.



Prizes and prestige included, but the beauty of having a chance to be a part of Hermès is above all as far as I'm concerned. Register and submit your designs at Designboom through August 1st, 2009.

Grad

U Ulicu Brace Krsmanovic, na Savskom amfiteatru, u zgradu iz 1884, uselio se Kulturni centar Grad.


Cigle, beton, meko i rusticno, cisto i slojevito, staro i novo, Grad je pravi smart retreat Kulturnog fronta. Jedinstveno mesto po konceptu, energiji i temelju koji je tu da traje. Tamo mozete popiti postenu tursku kafu, muskom rukom brizljivo priredjenu i serviranu, pronaci svoj coskic za laptopovanje tokom dana, uskoro uzivati u nekoj od izlozbi koje ce se desavati na spratu, u preogromnoj i predivnoj galeriji od 150 kvadrata, sa magicnim revidiranim starim parketom, slozenim kako nikad niste videli. A pogled na reku i Brankov most odozgo i tockove vozova koji prolete tu i tamo odozdo... Sve vise volim Beograd.

There's a new place in or dear city of Belgrade, Serbia. Down by the Sava river, 10 min walk from Sava Danube confluence, in the beautiful 1884 building, Cultural center Grad moved in.

Bricks, concrete, soft and rustic, clean and layered, old and new, Grad is the real new smart retreat by Cultural Front. This place is unique for its concept, energy, its base that is set to last. You can drink a proper black coffee there, made and served by a steady male hand, you'll find your spot for wi-fi surfing, almost always enjoy a fresh new exhibition, lecture every now and then, and a concert, dj set or a lazy jam session almost every evening and night. Upstairs, a big gallery, set in a vast room with the old wooden floors, set like you've never seen it before. And the view overlooking Sava, Branko's bridge and New Belgrade far across, then trains running pass by every now and then... Now I love Belgrade even more.

NESTO SE DESAVA. Nije cudno da dobre stvari izlaze iz radionice Droga5, The Great Schlep su oni radili... ali nije to samo zanimljiv koncept, pametan kopi, vrcava montaza, to je sledeci nivo, komercijalni izraz za novu generaciju. U prvoj recenici se deklarisu dovoljno jasno: Droga5 is an advertising agency devoted to the brands that will shape the 21st century.




Kreativna i art direkcija, super pametni zabavni size i jednostavna sredstva za izvodjenje, beli set sa samo par pazljivo odabranih elemenata i projekcija koja sve menja. Bacena senka koja daje prljavi paparazzo flash ton, koji ovako strucno kanalisan i u kombinaciji sa nesto izmenjenom i adaptiranom numerom Underwear grupe The Magnetic Fields daje new sexyness atmosferu.

Zapanjena sam i sa svakim gledanjem nadjem nesto novo.

Ah, da, u pitanju su neke nove super lagane patike, sa pretenzijom na potpuno nove mogucnosti style mixovanja.

THERE'S SOMETHING going on. It's no wonder that good stuff come out of Droga5 agency, they made The Great Schlep. And it is not only the intriguing concept, smart copy and crisp cut, it is the next level, commercial expression for the new generation. They declare themselfs precise enough in the first sentence on their website: Droga5 is an advertising agency devoted to the brands that will shape the 21st century.

Creative and art direction, super clever base, simple means of production, white set with just a few carefully chosen elements there and the projection that makes a complete change. The shadow that bodies make give something of a dirty paparazzo flash tone, that, molded this masterfully and combined with The Magnetic Fields' Underwear gives this new sexyness atmosphere.

I'm still stunned and always find something new watching it over and over again.

Oh, yes, these are brand new super light sneakers that tend to be style mixed in a whole new way.

Funny Face

Sada, kada sam posle duzeg vremena prestala da upirem svim silama trazeci ovaj film, prosto sam naletela na njega. I kada ocekujes ovoliko koliko sam ja ocekivala od filma, velike su sanse da ces se razocarati. S druge strane... Odri i ples u kombinaciji... to nije moglo da ne valja, znala sam i iz one GAP reklame da je film kao pravljen za mene, ali ovo je diiiiiivno. Evo originalnog trejlera:

Mali Kalenic



IMAMO NOVOG KOMSIJU. Na mestu one neke stare radnje sa mnogo mesa, kod cesme iznad Platoa, odmah pored radnje Robe di Kappa, pre nekoliko dana se otvorila nova radnjica sa vocem, povrcem, nesto vina i cajeva. Zove se Mali Kalenic. Sve je fino cisto elegantno i pregledno, u platenim korpama, kartonskim i drvenim gajbicama. Zenice koje rade tamo neobicno fine.

Pored tri vrste razlicitih jagoda izmedju kojih sam pre par dana birala, komorac im je BAS lep, imaju rukolu na meru, a ono sto me je posebno obradovalo je SVEZA NANA I BOSILJAK! A da, i LIME! Spremni smo za leto. (I za Noc muzeja. Spremite zalihe i bez'te sa ulica, krece najezda letecih dizel kultur turista.)

WE'VE GOT A NEW NEIGHBOUR. Where once was this retro store full of meat, a few days ago emerged this lovely new veggie/fruit/wine&tea store called Mali Kalenic. Everything fine, clean, elegant and neat, fruits and veggies in baskets and cardboard and wooden trays. Women working there unexpectedly nice.

Apart from three different sorts of strawberries I chose from a few days ago, fennel there is just lovely, they have rocket salad, fresh mint and basil, and finally LIME! Now we're ready for summer.

Hayon NOT coming to Belgrade

OK, ZVANICNO sam silno razocarana.
Jaime Hayon NE DOLAZI na Belgrade Design Week.





Priblizio se BDW09, uzmem da pretabam jos jednom program i zakljucim sta cu sve pratiti. I naravno, prvo da potvrdim da je Jaime Hayon tamo gde je predvidjen, u petak, 29.5 u 14.30h. Nema ga tamo! Hiperventilacija, halo, da li je trac ili istina... Sacekam da prodje vreme, jutro pametnije od veceri i tako to... Tako sam posle nekog vremena dosla do formulacije silno sam razocarana. To je bilo jedino predavanje koje nisam smela da propustim, a sada patim uz divni katalog sa milanskog Salona gde je Baccarat predstavio Crystal Candy kolekciju.

Ne smem ni da razmisljam o novim letnjim mekim finim koznim cipelama koje je Hayon napravio sa Camperom... bu-hu-hu ~ o ~



A da, otkazani i Depeche Mode... jel' se to ovde desava nesto za sta samo mi ne znamo?

BDW09 coming close, I go online to check the agenda once again and see what is the final team for this year. And, naturally, first of all, confirm that Jaime Hayon is coming to give the lecture on Friday, May 29th at 2.30PM. And he's not there, his name replaced with someone else's! Hyperventilation and all, hello, is that a mistake or the truth... I wait a bit and finally think of the less harsh formulation to use in public - sooo disappointed. That was the single lecture I couldn't miss this year no matter what, and now I'm suffering over the lovely catalogue that
Baccarat presented at the Milan Salon a few weeks ago presenting their Crystal Candy collection.

I mustn't dare think of those new fine leather summer shoes Hayon made with Camper... bu-hu-hu ~ o ~

Oh yes, Depeche Mode canceled their concert that was due in a couple of days... is there something going on here, something only we have no idea about...?

EVO MOG RADA za Laserski samit koji se desio juce. Cheap&Hip - dakle krajnje jasna i u cilju podrske koncepta.

Inace, izlozba se nije sinoc OTVORILA, nego se Laserski samit juce desio, odnosno, danas smo shvatili da je to bila one evening thing... Tako da - ko nije bio tamo ili ko je bio ali nije kupio grafiku jer je navala bila takva da je do stola sa stampacem jedva moglo da se pridje... zao mi je ;p

Penelope Fringes

KAD JE VREME za neku promenu, a nisi spreman za nesto ozbiljnije, promena frizure uvek pali.

Ako do sad vec niste, pronadjite svog celebrity look-alike-a, oblik glave, kvalitet kose i sl. i - ucite od njihovih stilista. Penelopine nove stroge shishke u kombinaciji sa debelim obrvama i dramaticnim ocima, bez rumenila i naglasenih usta su moj pick of the season.



Letnja Mango kampanja predlaze poliranu negovanu bazu na koju je okacena jedna fina lagana leprsava sarena stvar. Stilski, bliza mi je prolecna kampanja, prasnjavo ruzicasta, svetlo pepeljasto siva, sa udobnim sirokim zenstvenim haljinama.




Posle danasnjeg proleca, sutra nam najavljuju leto. Ove tri faze frizure su moj aktuelni hair style book. Samo da je modularno.

Fuji Instax



NE ZNAM ZASTO, ali juce sam krenula da pravim tokijsku neostvarenu shopping listu. Medju prvima na listi je Fuji Instax kamera. Dobro je imati jednu hladnu glavu pored sebe u ovakvim situacijama, nekoga ko zna da bi ovo za mene postala opsesija za koju nema mesta...

Lep je i pravi divne male Polariodaste fotke. Patim.

Fuji Instax camera popped out. It's good to have one sane person near by, the one that would figure this thing could become an obsession that has no place in my life right now...

It is so beautiful and makes lovely little Polarod-like photos. I ache.

Jet Lagged

Kako dani odmicu uspevam da sklopim sve smislenije recenice na pitanje I? Kako je bilo? Zapravo, na pocetku sam pricala totalne budalastine, a sad pocinje da mi se kristalise i filtrira ta dzumla utisaka u osnovni set zanimljivosti selektivno adaptiranih slusaocu. A za potpitanja sam uvek spremna.

Posle japanskog dorucka na Nariti i oprostaja od edamama (mahune soje, obarene i posoljene, njujorska ljubav), sve sto je u realnom svetu ostalo od Tokija je miris grada koji mi je silno zapahnuo kad sam otvorila kofer. Kakav je to miris! Razmisljala sam i ne umem da ga opisem. I ne znam sta ga cini, mislila sam omeksivaci, deterdzenti, kucna hemija, pa biljke, drvece, cvece... Ne znam. I tamo sam ga bila svesna sve vreme, ali kakav je osecaj osetiti ga ovde... Neverovatno. Do danas je polako iscilio iz garderobe. Bas ne volim taj osecaj kada posmatras kako ti nesto cili i izmice iz domasaja...

Boze, koliko sam jet lagged...

As the days go by I'm managing to create more and more sane sentences on the topic So? How was it? I've been saying total nonsence when we got back, and now it all starts to settle and filtrates, this huge amount of everything comes into this basic set of interestingnesses selectively adapted to the listener. And I'm always ready to answer some aditional questions.

After the Japanese breakfast at Narita Airport and my good buy to edamame, everything that is left of Tokyo in real life premises is the scent of the city that overwhelmed me when I opened the suitcase. And what a scent! I've been thinking how to describe it and... I've no idea. I don't know what makes it, I thought maybe detergents, softeners, flowers, trees in bloom... I simply don't know. I've been aware of it the whole time I was there, and guessed it was just a scent of a regular Japanese home. What an exiliration is to smell it here back home... Incredible! And until today it evaporated out of my clothes. I so dislike the sense of watching something slipping out, getting out of reach...

God I'm jet lagged...
